下丘是中脑背侧，四叠体的下一对小丘。其深面有一对下丘核，接受传导听觉的外侧丘系纤维。由下丘核发出纤维组成顶盖延髓束和顶盖脊髓束，沿中脑中央灰质外缘走向腹侧，交叉后下行，止于脑干运动核和脊髓前角细胞，是听觉的反射中枢。
