一、身业——身不履邪径，不染恶习，不任伤生，即不杀、不盗、不淫，则身业清静。 二、口业——口不妄言、绮语、两舌、恶口，则口业清静。 三、意业——不贪、不嗔、不痴，则意业清静。 佛家指三业中的不正当的具体行为如下： (1). 身之孽业：杀、盗、淫. (2). 口之孽业：两舌、恶口、妄言、绮语. (3). 意之孽业：贪、嗔、痴. 佛家的戒律就是用来防止我们身口意三业造恶！ 妙法莲华经较早记载: "尔时一切大众皆蒙佛授记，舍利弗身口意三业清净，而生大欢喜..." 密宗的修法三善业所指是: "教人口诵咒,手结印,心作观,身口意三业相应,自然能使人明心见性。" 佛家的皈依仪式中有如下发愿：（师父说一句，皈依者跟着说一句） "皈依佛法僧三宝，勤修戒定慧三学，息灭贪瞋痴三毒，净化身口意三业。" 拜佛之际，也要求身口意三业清净。
