“七佛”指释迦牟尼佛及在其以前出现的六位佛陀。即过去庄严劫末的毗婆尸（Vipa^syi）、尸弃（S/ikhi^）、毗舍浮（Vis/vabhu）等三佛，与现在贤劫初的惧留孙（Krakucchanda）、俱那含牟尼（Kanakamuni）、迦叶（Ka^ys/a^pa）、释迦牟尼（S/akyamuni）等四佛。 七佛皆已入灭，故又称过去七佛。
