Warnings for the system are presently issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre based in Hawaii and the Japanese North-West Pacific TsunamiAdvisory Centre based in Tokyo.
UNESCO-IOC coordinates the implementation of these systems with an aim to hand the responsibility for the issue of advisories over to the countries of the region through a new regional tsunamiadvisory service.
The response included the establishment of an interim Advisory Service provided through the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) in Hawaii and the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
