Too $hort生于洛杉矶，本名Todd Shaw。童年在Oakland成长，年仅17岁的他因对音乐的狂热而DIY了个人第一张专辑《Don't Stop Rappin'》，而且当下放在自己的后车箱沿街叫卖起来，始料未及的是，他的作品竟在当地卷起一股小旋风甚至被女孩们索取签名；随后Too $hort仍马不停蹄地创作延续至80末，便和好友Freddy B.合资成就独立厂牌「Dangerous Music」，发行label下首张唱片《Born To Mack》，光靠他们骑车巡回的贩售方式五万张就没了。
