It's about how you embrace dissent as a leader." Lincoln's "genius", writes Goodwin, was "to form friendships with men who had previously opposed him; to repair injured feelings; to assume responsibility for the failures of subordinates; to share credit with ease; and to learn from mistakes." Given his driven decades at Microsoft, it may be hard to imagine Gates being interested in such softer qualities; but then it was hard not so long ago to imagine him giving most of his money away.
