He was almost fulfilling the words of Christ, “whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it” and he was prepared to do that, if necessary. Obviously he was valuable to Paul, but Paul was prepared to let him return to Philippi so that he might continue in that dedicated spirit for their benefit back home.
