abstract:The Organ Pipes () is a notable rock cliffs on the northwest side of Jaeger Table, south of Cairn Ridge, in the Dufek Massif, Pensacola Mountains. The name is suggested by the appearance of the feature caused by weathering along prominent vertical joints in the gabbro rock.
Pop star David Byrne, formerly of Talking Heads, has turned the inside of a defunct ferry terminal into a giant musical instrument, retrofitting an antique organ and wiring it to thepipes, the beams, and even the plumbing of the Battery Maritime Building.
Parts such as delicate leatherwork would be replaced, wind leaks rectified, and thepipes sent up to organ builders in Durham to be cleaned and repaired, he said.
Placed beneath the cinema stage are more than 900 pipes, similar to those found on a church organ, the drums and the electronics required to activate and play connected instruments, such as violins, trumpets, flutes and a tambourine.
