If China and America had come to blows in the Taiwan Strait over China's intimidation of Taiwan last year, Japan would have been in a dither over whether it could even supply the American warships involved.
This (it has to be said, unhelpful) effort by China's critics in Congress to micro-manage America's defence relations with Taiwan has China hopping mad.
