The sincere narration, written by Armistead Maupin and delivered by Lily Tomlin, is very PBS, but the tone shifts entertainingly whenever the directors turn to interviews, with the likes of Maupin, Harvey Fierstein, Susan Sarandon, and the incandescent SusieBright, all of whom bring humor and great understanding to the clips.
