The tiny bones, each about the thickness of pencil lead, were first spotted three years ago by a local caretaker in the outwash from a steephillside near a well-known fossil site outside Kunming, China.
For the best views, retreat up the steephillside (by foot or taxi) to the sleepy town of Monticello, which may lack action but more than makes up for it with sweeping vistas of the sea below and mountains in the distance.
