Various anti-spam programs use several techniques to spot and kill junk mail, but IBM believes the Chung-Kwei algorithm to be the only anti-spam tool that uses pattern discovery in this way.
Their research, which was recently presented at the 49th Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics focuses on several different techniques for spam-spotting, as well as combinations of the same.
While the technique of routing mail via mail servers of net service firms might cause problems for those that use blacklists and block lists it did not mean that other techniques for stopping spam lost their efficacy too.
