abstract:Socialist law denotes a general type of legal system which has been used in communist and formerly communist states. It is based on the civil law system, with major modifications and additions from Marxist-Leninist ideology.
When a previous Socialist government passed a law banning the advertising of alcohol, grape-growers and other rural folk boiled with resentment and may well have helped the Socialists lose 80 seats in subsequent parliamentary elections.
But the opposition Socialist Party has dismissed the law as ineffective and says it will appeal to the Constitutional Council - France's legislative guarantor.
Congress has the power to pass a law that puts every validated national party (thus including Green, Libertarian, Natural Law, and Socialist) on every state ballot for FEDERAL elections, and also mandating they be included in all debates.
