The new operating system follows a smart move in January to ditch the older, problematic Wintel legacy and focus on new versions of Windows for the System on a Chip (SoC) architecture, many times more suitable for tablet devices, according to Sandeep Aggarwal at Caris.
Anything more than a casual gaming device built into a TV currently is unfeasible, but with faster SoC processing and faster broadband connection, Xbox could be an installation on hardware-compatible devices rather than a discrete device.
At a media event in Beijing earlier today, Senior Product Manager Yufei Wang confirmed that his company's next flagship SoC will enter mass production in late May, but he refused to comment on which upcoming devices will feature it.
