His holding company, Fininvest, controls Mediaset, Italy's biggest private television group, embracing three out of the country's six national channels, rakes in half of all television advertising and owns films, mobile-phone and Internet companies.
All five terrestrial channels - BBC One and Two, ITV, Channel Four and Channel Five - have made the shortlist as well as six digital or satellite channels.
