The charity's chairman SirPeterLampl said the strong performance of some Asian countries could reflect cultural differences, adding that Chinese students often outperformed their classmates in Britain too.
SirPeterLampl, chairman of Sutton Trust, which promotes social mobility through education, said the research revealed "a group of bright students who need extra support and encouragement to make the right decisions".
SirPeterLampl, chairman of education charity Sutton Trust, welcomed the guide, adding that he hoped it would help "bright non-privileged students in particular, who all too often do not receive the support and guidance they need at this key juncture in their lives".
