I looked around, you know, being a curious kid like I was. I found the attic amazing. Until…I seen the monster for the first time, in person, in front of me. I whisked my hand over the top of the chest as I walked by and that one tiny action, set the chest off. Like a genie's lamp. I walked to the back of the attic, where the dusty clothes were in a pile on the floor. And the chest began to jump. From side to side, barely catching itself from tipping. The actions were fast and violent. It was like something was trying to get out. I ran to the entrance, as fast as I could, thinking I could get out, but the door had been locked from the outside. I turned around, and slowly, before me, the hatch on the chest sprung open. I lost control of my breath, my eyes as huge as they could be. I remember thinking it was the boogie monster. The chest lid, slowly opened. Inch by inch, all I saw was darkness. Then when my eyes adjusted more, I began to see an arm, lifting the inside of the lid. Then I saw its eyes, and that's when I screamed. The lid slammed to the floor behind it, and the monster was now towering in front of me. Only about a foot away. I backed up, towards the stairs down to the closet. And I tripped back down the few steps. I screamed in pain and fear, as it stood on the edge of the steps, snarling words I didn't understand. I don't know why, but it turned around for a second, snapping at something behind him. I saw slashes on his back, deep scars, in his charcoal black skin. His claws did a spider like move by his sides, and he turned back to me. I banged on the door with the sides of my fists, hoping someone would come, and someone did. My sister. Once she opened the door, the light from outside hit the beast, and it roared, and melted as a mist into the floor boards.” a tear ran down my cheek. Remembering such a terrible memory, made me more than uncomfortable. Especially for the act that happened afterwards, when my mother found out I was up in the attic.
