The Root Self is pure， clean， and untainted by worldly matters. The flesh Self， because it exists in the world， can too often find itself becoming the world， whereas the Root Self， because it is untouchable and inside of us， cannot be polluted. Sometimes， the human existence can be dominated by the flesh Self，which is led by the pursuit of those trappings that reflect ascendancy on earth: wealth， power， and the abundance of material goods. But it is the abundance of the spirit that is our true purpose， and this can only be achieved by awakening our Root Selves. Therefore， we must repeatedly "nudge" or "prod" our Root Selves into wakefulness with our thoughts and awareness， making it the compass and center of our every activity. Once our Root Self manifests and becomes ascendant over our flesh Self， it can then communicate with us， provide us wisdom， and steer our growth and direct our spiritual journey here on earth.
