abstract:In epigenetics, a paramutation is an interaction between two alleles at a single locus, whereby one allele induces a heritable change in the other allele. The change may be in the pattern of DNA methylation, for example.
The work is evidence of a phenomenon called paramutation, in which orders issued by a version of a gene (an allele, in the jargon) in one generation are remembered in subsequent generations, even if the allele itself has not been inherited.
