abstract:The Orel movement (from the Czech word for eagle) is a Moravia-based Czech youth movement and gymnastics organization which emerged between 1902-1909 as Catholic Church-supported competitor of the nationalistic and therefore, in the local policical context, rather anti-Catholic organization Sokol.
One of the victims, newspaper columnist Orel Zambrano, was killed by two gunmen on a motorcycle in January 2009 after writing about drugs cases where the Makled family had been implicated.
Their ranks include former star pitcher Orel Hershiser, the venerable TV host Art Linkletter, former U.S. Senator Zell Miller of Georgia and former Alabama Supreme Court Judge Roy Moore--the jurist who was removed for refusing to dismantle a courthouse monument to the Ten Commandments.
