Unfortunately, the Internet offered such an intoxicating sense of liberation from liberal cant, corporate dominion and plain old superficiality to many on the right and the left--constituencies that were often the most intellectually exercised about the state of journalism--that each seemed to treat new media as a new way of doing politics.
