The newpatch fixes both the original security hole named after researcher Juan Carlos Garcia Cuartango and a recently discovered variant of the problem.
This means that, absent enactment of a newpatch in the near future, nearly 30 million additional taxpayers will become subject to the AMT on their 2012 income tax returns.
