“I was seven, so I didn't exactly know where to go. So I simply stood on the porch, hitting the door and calling out for mom and dad to open the door. They never did so I just went to my neighbours' house. The person who lived there was just a girl in about her mid-twenties and she was beyond nice. Her name was Natalie, and she had babysat me for as long as I could remember. I told her how my parents left me home alone. Natalie felt bad, of course, and she took me inside. But the first thing she did was call the police. They went around looking for my parents because, well, they obviously weren't at home.
