Ms King, who became only the second black female MP when she was elected at 29, lost her Bethnal Green and Bow seat in 2005 to Respect Party politician George Galloway.
As MPs debated second reading of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill on 29 June 2011, Tory MP for Shipley Philip Davies described the legislation as a "disaster for the Conservative brand".
