It is located 40 km southwest of Surabaya, and constitutes one of the regional units of Gerbangkertosusila Development (a linkage of towns and city connecting Gresik, Bangkalan, Mojokerto, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, and Lamongan, supposed to sustain Surabaya as center of business and industrial activities).
