abstract:Mitteleuropa is a book on geopolitics of central and eastern Europe, published by German liberal politician Friedrich Naumann in 1915. In it, Naumann promotes the Prussian understanding of Mitteleuropa as a postwar German cultural and economic imperium in central and eastern Europe that was later adopted by Nazi geopolititians.
Mr de Villepin decorated his address with erudite references to such cultural totems of Mitteleuropa as Gustav Klimt, Elias Canetti, Stefan Zweig and Mozart (whose 250th birthday it was).
