Ecstasy is methylenedioxymethamphetamine, or MDMA for short, which is a synthetic, psychoactive (mind-altering) drug with hallucinogenic and amphetamine-like properties.
The concern is that lorcaserin has the potential to cause mind-altering effects that might lead to diversion of the prescription drug for recreational purposes.
"After Ecstasy, new chemical drugs will be created with higher mind-altering capacity and no toxic effects, " warns Viroj Sumyai of Thailand's Food and Drug Administration.
