According to legend, it has a history of more than 150 years. Laozi of Mei School in Yangbazhuang began to perform in the 8th year of Emperor Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1730).
据传，落子已有150余年的历史了，而杨八庄子的梅派落子则早在清雍正八年（1730）左右就开展了活动，落子的兴盛期是在清末民初。
"Some parents do everything for their children," says Yan Mei, an official with the primary school, adding that many students are short of the basic skills needed in their daily lives.

Mei recently married but doesn't live with her husband because it's too far from the school.
