Throughout my speech, Martin had sat looking at me silently. Now he reached over and gently took my hand. His hand was soft, but firm. I felt a blush beginning to rise from the base of my neck to my cheeks, and I looked down again. After a few more minutes of silence, Martin spoke. “How the hell did you put up with all that?” he asked, sounding amazed. I shrugged. “I just … hide the emotions. My music helps, and my poetry too. Most of my poems and songs come from the heart, and I always put my heart in my writing.”
