The work refers to piles of building bricks Mr. Othoniel saw lining the roads in India, but also the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York that are often seen as a turning point in gay liberation.
They point to the killing of Abu Ali Mustafa, the leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, in August 2001, and of Raed Karmi, leader of the al-Aqsa Brigrades, in January 2002.
