The former leader of Coventry City Council, Conservative councillor KenTaylor, said the "well-connected" businessman would have to declare an interest.
Dr KenTaylor, a consultant who works at City Hospital and who was at the extraordinary general meeting, said there was disbelief among his colleagues when they heard all the facts.
Professor KenTaylor, British Heart Foundation professor of cardiac surgery at the Hammersmith Hospital in London, said that surgeons were well aware of the need to not spend too long on heart surgery.
