abstract:The Kappa Effect is a temporal perceptual illusion that arises when observers judge the elapsed time between two sensory stimuli in a sequence of consecutive stimuli. Research has suggested that when subjects are estimating the elapsed time between consecutive stimuli in a sequence, subjects will tend to overestimate the elapsed time when the spatial/auditory/tactile distance is sufficiently long and will tend to underestimate it when the distance is sufficiently short.
