Mortimus stood silent, bracing himself to be stuck down in once quick and hopefully painless blow, until it was revealed to him that stead bore no rider atop it, and quickly he unclenched himself in surprise. The horse, casually, just stared back. A second noise drew his attention to the gardens where a second, brown horse was feasting away idly on what remained of several cabbage patches. Again there were no signs of a Dervion henchman sitting atop it, though Mortimus was quick to notice blood seep from its mane. "Lordy!" he gasped, not knowing how to feel. Once more his attention was stolen away by rumbling coming from the barn and out near the old stables. Crouched, he slid carefully along front walls of the home house and gently poked his head around the corner, ever conscious of what lurked on the far side
