The UNESCO InternationalOceanographicCommission (IOC) promotes international cooperation in ocean scientific research and in the development of ocean services worldwide.
She explained that "UNESCO, along with the InternationalOceanographicCommission, wants to reinforce themes such as Water and Coastal Management, as well as Education in the region, strengthening the subject particularly on Higher Education".
UNESCO, the UN organization in charge of science, has long promoted sustainable development notably through the Intergovernmental OceanographicCommission, the International Hydrological Programme, the International Geoscience Programme and the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme.
