At Song Do Wan summer camp outside the port town of Wonsan on the east coast, Young Pioneers race excitedly to their dorms, unpacking suitcases beneath portraits of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il.
They seemed to be in a competition to wear the most Kim Il-Sung buttons they could pin onto their clothing (Kim Il-Sung was the father of Kim Jong-Il and eternal president of North Korea).
In Pyongyang, workers, soldiers and children gather in front of towering bronze casts or giant mosaics of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il, taking it in turn to shuffle forwards in lines and bow.
