The fledgling democracy in Pakistan is the product of a popular resistance to Pervez Musharraf's dictatorship that had, as its centerpiece, support for the restoration of judges--including Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary, sacked by Musharraf in 2007 and returned to office in 2009.
