I push him back, stand up and walk over to my bed. I gather my comforter and climb under. I like the cool silk touching my burning skin. He comes to my side, no hesitation. His leans down. I turn to him, my eyes wondering around his face. He takes my hands in his own. He leans down to my ear. Murmurs something and kisses my cheek. Then for the next thirty minutes or so he's kneeling there on the floor, gazing into my eyes. No words spoken. I know now what he was doing. He was watching me, waiting for me to sleep. And I did.
