hobbes thought that

网络释义

  霍布斯认为

There is much disagreement between Hobbes and Locke regarding power. Locke concluded that, for the most part, humans are capable of discerning between what is lawful and what isn't and therefore can resolve conflicts without a force above them. He believed that the government should only remain in power if it has the permission of those it governs. Hobbes thought that, in a state of nature, people cannot handle power and are condemned to endless violent conflict. Hence, they can only live in peace together by subjection to the absolute power of a common master. This ideal is directly related to “War of the Buttons” and “Lord of the flies”. In both scenarios, the children rely on the ideals of Hobbes, in the sense that they forfeit their individual power to a common master for the greater good.
