The Hitachi announcement represents the latest in a long series of innovations by Hitachi GST as well as the earlier HDD activities from IBM and Hitachi.
These numbers are composite numbers from Seagate and Western Digital and include Hitachi GST (and IBM before that companies HDD business became part of Hitachi GST) until 2009 when HGST quit publically reporting their ASPs.
With the number of HDD companies likely to fall to 3 by next year (with the Western Digital acquisition of Hitachi GST) it will be interesting to see if either Western Digital or Toshiba (the other HDD manufacturer) will introduce their own hybrid HDD products.
