And too often in our nation's capital, we said the right words, we patted ourselves on the back, but ultimately failed to do what wewere actually sent here to do -- and that is to stand up to the special interests, and stand up for the American people.
And the fact that while I got a number of questions, understandably, during briefings in recent days and weeks about why wewere optimistic that we could reach a bipartisan compromise, because it looked so unlikely, the fact is herewestand today -- less than 24 hours after that compromise was reached -- anticipating votes in both houses of Congress that will achieve something rather significant.
