Laura Vanegas, a 45-year-old native of Ecuador, changes into her Liberty robes and applies copper-green face paint behind the Times Square military recruiting station.
Her designers set out to address her pet peeves: sashes that fall off robes (hers are buttoned on like in a vintage couture jacket), pants and sleeves that are too long (hers are designed to be cuffed), and pajama bottoms with bulky ties that are uncomfortable to sleep on (hers sit below the waist and have flat fronts and elastic backs).
