Because he's mercurial, insufficiently engaged by the more boring (but crucial) operations like distribution and, ultimately, because he's a pretty nasty piece of work.
But he's been embroiled in a nasty legal fight with the estate of Christo Michailidis, his deceased business and live-in partner, and was forced into personal bankruptcy.
Add to that maintaining a constituency about as far from Cardiff Bay as it's possible to get and the fact that he's had to bear the brunt of some pretty nasty - and anonymous - Labour briefings against him and it's hard not to feel at least some sympathy.
