A study recently published by Science found that as young as age six, girls are less likely than boys to say that members of their gender are "really, really smart".
The event therefore takes a very real and up-front approach to increasing the visibility of women in science, and raising awareness of the current gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) research.
The UK National Commission for UNESCO (UKNC) draws on this knowledge to promote environmental science, help build scientific capacity in developing countries, improve access to scientific information globally and encourage gender equity in science.
