Gabriel – or Gabe, as he insisted everyone call him – was an art student struggling three jobs to pay for his classes. He drank just about as much coffee as the clients. It was a wonder the guy was even able to sleep at all. Gabe constantly pleaded Adele to let him expose some of his artwork in the café and she'd accepted a few times, but he had lately become obsessed with lampposts and the resulting art was weird and a little disturbing. Once, for a class project, he'd done a series of acrylic paintings of his mother who had Alzheimer and did nothing else but sit and stare out the window all day. It was beautiful and he'd cried like a baby when it was done. But he ended up giving his teacher a few quick sketches he'd done of children playing in the park the afternoon of the due date. His mark was disastrous and he had to take the class again next term, but he'd simply been unable to show those paintings to anyone. He put them away in the back of his closet and tried to not look at them too often.
