abstract:Fo Tan () is a suburb of Sha Tin District, Hong Kong. It was developed as a light industrial area, but this activity has declined markedly in recent years.
Every year since 2003, artists in the FoTan neighbourhood have opened their usually private workspaces to the public in a weekend-long festival, called Fotanian Open Studios.
In an effort to find affordable space, cash-poor creative types flocked to former industrial centres like Kwun Tong, Wong Chuk Hang and FoTan, turning former meatpacking warehouses and textile storage facilities into low-cost studios, showrooms and boutiques.
