I saw this same aircraft fly at the 2002 Duxford "Flying Legends" airshow in the UK, when it was configured as an A-36 Invader, the dive-bomber version of the Mustang.
It wassuchlegendsthat Bower had inmind when, over a drinkoneevening in 1976, hesuggestedtohis Pal Chorley: "Let'sgo over there and makeitlook like a flyingsaucer has landed."
Legends about its origin vary from it being a flying rock that brought the Navajo people to this area, to being the home of two huge bird monsters who occasionally swoop down from the sky and feast upon any Natives they find below.
