One study found that two-thirds of American women had at some point switched from full-time work to part-time or flexibletime to balance work and family.
But small-business and employment experts say you shouldn't underestimate the value workers place on alternative forms of compensation, such as flexiblework schedules, time off for volunteering and, particularly, the chance to be part of a venture with the potential for great success.
The government too is involved, and there are efforts to change work patterns, to allow more flexible training and part-time work hours so women can take breaks to have children and then return to their career without damaging it, as it would in the past.
