The shortcomings in the provision of education to children and basic literacy skills to adults made the implementation of the Family Basic Education (FABE) programme imperative.
The minister said he was encouraged by the inclusion of the commitment to provide one year of pre-school education for every family in the programme for government.
Thus, recognising that family wellbeing and development directly correlates with the educational standards of women, PEPE initiated the Alternative Community EducationProgramme (ACEP) in an effort to combat illiteracy using traditional knowledge systems as the principal basis of learning.
