The next step, Pearce believes, is to add an ethicaldimension to the struggle by highlighting the fact that those intitially affected will be almost entirely located in the developing world where infrastructure and resources are already at their most over-stretched.
For example: An Internet-jacked kettle that alerts us when the national power grid is overloaded (a prototype has been developed by U.K. engineer Chris Adams) doesn't prevent us from boiling yet another cup of tea, but it does add an extra ethicaldimension to that choice.
