abstract:The Equality Tribunal is an Irish government-operated quasi-judicial forum which decides cases of alleged discrimination under Irish equality legislation. It was established under the Employment Equality Act 1998, and its capacity has been enhanced under the Employment Equality Acts 1998–2008, Equal Status Acts 2000–2008 and Pensions Acts 1990–2008.
Eileen Lavery of the Equality Commission, which supported the tribunal, said the decision highlighted the fact that discrimination on grounds of age was unlawful.
